Overview of the UMIDIGI F1 Play smartphone: a processor for games with 6 GB of RAM and a good 48 megapixel camera.

UMIDIGI F1 Play - a smartphone worth $ 199, which by its name pushes the buyer to the fact that in toys the device will behave decently. At the same time, of course, the manufacturer did not forget about the design, excellent autonomy and a 48 megapixel camera. A lot of good can be said about the 6.3-inch display. Details in the review.
Kit and accessories
Discover and use - this is the approach that UMIDIGI has to complete most of its smartphones. In the box they put a silicone case with a corrugated texture under the skin. The material is soft and pleasant to touch.

In addition to it, the buyer is offered: a protective film pre-pasted on the screen, a USB Type-C cable, a power adapter, a quick start guide and a clip for opening the SIM card tray.

Design and body
Appearance at the smartphone is attractive, but here you can argue with me. There is no metal in the exterior, but even plastic looks advantageous. First, we have it black. Secondly, it is not easily soiled. The liner to the ends is smooth, which is for holding with one hand just right. And this is despite the fact that the thickness is not the most optimal - 8.8 mm. Dimensions: 156.9 x 74.3 x 8.8 mm, weight - 193 g. You can’t call it heavy, especially considering the battery capacity of more than 5000 mAh.

In addition to black, red is on sale. The test sample has a bright edge near the camera. This does not reduce the severity of the model, but a slight touch of brutality is present with it.

The back side has placed on itself a fingerprint scanner and a pad with cameras. It sticks out more than necessary, with careless handling, you can damage the glass covering the lens.

SIM cards are inserted into the slot on the left side. A hybrid format is used - 2 SIM cards or one memory card and one SIM card. Not an ideal solution, but I will not attribute it to cons either.

On the right are two convenient buttons: power and volume control. They are pressed without effort, when triggered, the click is almost inaudible.

All connectors are collected below: audio output, microphone, speaker and USB Type-C port. Noise reduction is present, the second microphone on the upper end.
The joints on the panels are invisible, so that the assembly put perfectly. For two weeks of testing, I did not notice any squeaks or other annoying moments, despite the fact that I absolutely did not spare the device.

UMIDIGI F1 Play is equipped with a display of 6.3 inches with a resolution of 2340x1080. 92.7% - this percentage of the front panel takes up the screen. The aspect ratio is 19.5: 9, due to which it was possible to inscribe a cutout under the front-facing camera in the form of a falling drop. Immediately above it is an elongated speaker, but there is no event indicator.

Responsible for the picture LTPS matrix, 409 PPI. Pixelate invisible. The color temperature setting is available through the Miravision option. In the section with the display one more parameter is interesting - “Activation in a vertical position”, which highlights the screen as soon as you take it in your hand. An annoying function that puts down the battery.
Viewing angles are excellent, as is the display of information when there is a surplus of sunlight. Although the image is almost unreadable in the sun at an angle, which is even good - no one will look at confidential information.

The protective properties of the display with heavy and sharp objects did not check, there is not Gorilla Glass. The top layer has a good, but not perfect oleophobic coating. Multitouch supports 10 simultaneous touches.
Perhaps the only thing worth reproaching the manufacturer on the part of the display, I would like to lower the minimum backlight.
Hardware stuffing
Once the word “Play” appears in the name of the smartphone, it means a smartphone for games. Immediately I conclude from the results of my test - the handset is really perfect for games if there is no money and no desire to spend money on flagships of 700-900 dollars.
For the performance of the UMIDIGI F1 Play, the MediaTek Helio P60 chipset with a 64-bit 8-core processor (4xCortex-A73, 2.0 GHz and 4xCortex-A53, 2.0 GHz) on the 12 nm process is responsible. It is supplemented with an ARM Mali-G72 MP3 800 MHz graphics chip and 6 GB of RAM (LPDDR4X RAM).
Below are the results of the run of the device in the benchmark Antutu. With its 135 thousand points in the lead, he is not knocked out, but the rear does not feed. And this is despite the fact that he has a display with Full HD + resolution, which requires a lot of cost to draw the picture.
Graphic-demanding simulators and PubG Mobile were launched on medium detail settings. About heavy applications or a browser with 15 open bookmarks and nothing to say - everything opens quickly and does not slow down.

Internal storage is limited to a 64 GB drive, of which more than 55 GB are initially available to the user. It expands with memory cards up to 256 GB or by connecting a flash drive via USB OTG.

Communication and communications
F1 Play allows you to install two SIM cards of nano format at once. Supports networks up to 4G inclusive, with no restrictions on operators.

In terms of wireless interfaces, the smartphone is interested in Bluetooth in version 4.2 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac, including Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi Display. Of course, there is a GPS chip in a company with GLONASS and BEIDOU. Satellites are caught very quickly.
Special thanks to the manufacturer for NFC, because the main competitor Redmi Note 7 does not have it.

The sound through the speakers and headphones perfectly complements the gaming experience. And this makes F1 Play on the part of entertainment almost TOP. The volume reserve is sufficient both for conversational and multimedia.

There are two microphones, so the phone always copes with high-quality noise in high winds or in a very noisy place. My interlocutor never complained about poor quality.

Officially, the battery capacity in F1 Play is 5150 mAh. And this is actually the case. In the "economy" mode, the gadget lasted 3 days. But if you play the whole day, 5-6 hours, then you should connect the memory before going to bed.
For 3 weeks of testing, I was able to test my smartphone in absolutely all possible modes. The result is the following: music in headphones - 90 hours, surfing the network - 10 hours, video on Youtube - 9 hours. Brightness exhibited by me at 70%.
Finally, the main thing - the game mode is 7-8 hours non-stop.

A full charge takes at least 3 hours, but only when using the complete charge. It supports the parameters 5В / 2А, 9В / 2А, 12В / 1,5А, which in the last two cases equals 18 W.

OTG allows you to charge other gadgets.

UMIDIGI, like me, prefer simplicity, so that Android 9.0 is not overloaded with unnecessary functions. As part of the already installed programs is also nothing unusual. Here is a list of what a customer can change, implement and use:
  • Location of control keys
  • Screen recording
  • Barcode Scanner
  • Quick access to the camera and mute through gestures

A few words about the fingerprint scanner. It is fast, the finger can be applied as you like. Face unlock works precisely and without delay.
What needs to be improved will be improved. Why so sure about this? The manufacturer has already released two new firmware, while I tested the device. The second added and corrected many nuances.

48 megapixels. - the main camera, which is another important factor that attracts buyers. Partly agree, the content can be estimated below.

I liked the detail and quality during the day, indoors, at night.

The main camera is double - 48 + 8 megapixels. A 6-ball lens works with an F / 1.7 aperture matrix. The main camera liked fast autofocus, as well as a set of modes.
The front camera is 16 megapixels. with aperture f / 2.0. Pictures are clear even with a lack of lighting. Natural colors, if you try, then selfie for Instagram will be obtained from the first time.

Both modules record video in FullHD resolution.

UMIDIGI F1 Play with a price tag of up to $ 200 can do a lot, and it also looks in accordance with its value.
UMIDIGI has been on the market for many years and has established itself as a reliable manufacturer, so it's quite reasonable to compare F1 Play with a Xiaomi smartphone, namely Redmi Note 7. The latter loses in the resolution of the front camera, the amount of RAM, battery capacity and even in the absence of NFC.
So I advise UMIDIGI F1 Play, not only as a profitable gaming smartphone, but also as a novelty that guarantees the buyer the relevance of design and technology for at least the next year, and maybe even for two.
  • Good assembly and selection of materials
  • Fast fingerprint scanner
  • Excellent performance for its price.
  • The quality of the photos taken by the main camera day and night
  • Front camera features
  • Decent display
  • Fast charge
  • Not found
